World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball reported this is the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English program in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership reached 16.1M. The overall World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase over the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
