Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then settled his debts and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in Timmony and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their reputation as important members in the influential clan could enable the group enter places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern the city for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the clan.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
